Dr. Dawn Miner has been licensed as a clinical psychologist for over 20 years. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Virginia. She then completed her Master of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Richmond where she was a member of the Psi Chi honor society and recipient of the University of Richmond Research Grant. Dr. Miner then earned a Ph.D. in. Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University, where she was the recipient of the Lechner Graduate Student Fellowship and a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She completed an APA-approved internship at Duke University and her post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychological assessment at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Miner provided psychotherapy in a large private practice before starting her own boutique psychotherapy practice in Northern Virginia. She recently moved to Sarasota and has been working at the Peterson Counseling Center at Ringling College of Art and Design. She now looks forward to working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary private practice where comprehensive care can be provided to clients in one location.
Dr. Miner believes that one of the most important parts of therapy is establishing a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship so that each client may be heard and truly understood. Therapy is a collaborative process and is completely personalized for each individual client. She works with clients to help them create the change that they seek using an integrative approach of empirically-based treatment strategies. Some areas of her clinical experience include anxiety, depression, grief and loss, coping skills, stress management, adjustment disorders, self-esteem issues, life transition issues, interpersonal skills and effective communication, parenting skills, learning challenges, and personal growth and development. She is a member of the American Psychological Association.
