What Is TMS Therapy?

TMS is designed to improve brain activity. Patients with MDD, OCD, and other mental health issues typically experience depressed activity in certain areas of their brain. TMS therapy aims to safely stimulate these areas to improve activity with the use of electromagnetic waves, similar to the way an MRI functions.

Here is a more specific view of how it works: A TMS device is held to a patient’s head in a precise position. During a TMS session in our state-of-the-art center—which runs in as little as three minutes or between three and 20 minutes, as determined by your doctor— the device emits electromagnetic waves. These electromagnetic waves excite the brain’s neurons, stimulating its activity in a way that is both safe and controlled.

Precise Targeting

Our team’s use of visor2™️ allows us to more exactly target delivery of TMS pulses through neuronavigation and motor threshold determination; applied either with or without MRI assistance, visor2 ultimately increases the precision of treatments.

Misconceptions About TMS

Some people misunderstand how TMS therapy works. It is important to note that TMS is not at all invasive—it is not surgery—nor is it hypnosis or shock therapy. There is also no medication involved. TMS therapy is FDA-approved and when performed by a licensed professional, a safe and effective way to treat anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.

Is TMS therapy Painful?

TMS therapy is painless. A patient may feel a tingling or warming but will not feel pain. Over time and with subsequent treatment, these sensations subside. During the treatment, the patient is awake. There is no anesthesia required, and an individual can resume any daily activities immediately afterward.

How Quickly Will I See My TMS Therapy Results?

For optimal results, the recommended course of treatment is six weeks; however, many patients see results in as little as two or three weeks. Results typically include:
